Steps to a New You

Dr. Wagner believes that the best patients are educated patients. If you are interested in learning more about bariatric surgery, please take the time to understand the process.

  1. Dr. Wagner asks all patients to attend a free bariatric surgery seminar. The informational seminar further explains the procedures, their advantages, disadvantages, and risks. Dr. Wagner offers seminars frequently; please contact our office for schedule and location.
  2. The next step is to understand if, and how, your insurance carrier covers bariatric surgery. Review your policy documentation and contact your carrier for specific information. You will need to ask a benefit representative if you have ‘coverage for weight loss surgery based on medical necessity.’ If they state that you do not, please clarify that there is a direct ‘policy exclusion’ on the plan. If your insurer denies coverage or states there is a policy exclusion, Dr. Wagner’s office staff will help you understand your options.
  3. Once you have attended a seminar, spoken to your insurance company and mailed or faxed the medical and diet history forms as well as the patient insurance information page to Dr. Wagner ’s office, you will then be scheduled for a private consultation. Together, you and Dr. Wagner will discuss and decide on the best surgical option to help you reach your weight and health goals.
  4. Patients are asked to fill out forms for Dr. Wagner’s office to keep on file. All forms are available in our office, or can be downloaded below.
